Akashi Restaurant (Vivo City) Part 2

By the time we reached the restaurant, there were quite a lot of guests having their meals.

Since ours was quite a huge group, I was glad to make a reservation in advance. We ordered a Akashi bento set, a Katsu don set, a Oyako don set, a Nigiri soba set, a Gintara misozuke set, a Tarachiri nabe set, a Niku udon and a Tempura soba. The green tea for each person was free but 2 plates of Edamame (which looked like green peas) cost $4.

In addition, we ordered the famous sashimi set where each piece of salmon cost $4. Each person enjoyed 2 pieces and that 2 big dishes of sashimi cost a whopping $64!

I must say that the $4 a piece of sashimi was really tasty and different (besides the price). It was really delicious!

After adding the 7% GST & 10% service charge, the bill was about $233.

Mum was very pleased with her Akashi bento set, R's Nigiri soba set which has green noodles was half eaten by Isa. Isa ordered her favourite Oyako don but the portion was too huge. In the end, she shared with R & J. My Katsu don set was more than sufficient to fill my stomach. J's niku udon was quite small, maybe because beef was expensive but he loved it.

The service was good; the friendly waitress cleared our empty plates promptly. The green tea was refilled without being asked. Yes, we would return to this restaurant again.

Hi DM,
Thanks so much for sharing. We didn't really like that beans but since it was already on the table, we guess even if we did not touch, our bill would have included them.
Anyway, overall was quite a nice experience in this restaurant.
Do you have any other recommendations for a similar and not so expensive Jap restaurant?
Thanks a lot.

ya..they prob figured most people would think that way...that's how they make money i guess. but i really don't like the beans so i'd always make it a point to ask them to take it back so that they don't charge it in my bill. my other all time favorite Japanese restaurants is located at 214 West Coast Way, Hong Leong Garden Shopping Centre. pretty authentic jap food and reasonable prices too. if you folks are big eaters...try the ala carte buffet at Minori Dining & Sake Bar at UE Square, #03-15/16 (Clemenceau Avenue)...quite a lot of choices for eat-all-u-want - D_M
