"Drop" Kawaguchiko and "take up" Nikko

After days of "struggling", planning and even to the extent of considering an overnight highway bus from Kyoto to Tokyo, I think it is better for me to drop my trip to Kawaguchiko to see Mt Fuji.

Well, I can use this as another reason to visit Japan again in the future.

Ito san seemed very eager to plan both families to go Disneyland together. He is thinking hard how to bring a total of 4 adults and 3 children from his house in Sakura-shi to Disneyland. I do not want to disappoint him and of course, my precious Isa too.

I continued to surf for more info on a day trip from Tokyo.

Maybe I will take the double decker Shinkansen Max Yamabiko from Ueno to Utsunomiya and then Nikko. I know Nikko is famous for its Toshogu shrine but am not that keen but planning a walking stroll around Central Nikko.

Here is the website of Nikko Tourist Association:

apart from the toshogu shrine in nikko...the kegon falls is another famous attraction and definitely worth a visit...especially if you've got a clear day on your day of visit - D_M

oh..and there's also this shinkyo bridge in nikko, spanning across a fast flowing stoney river that is quite a picturesque sight! - D_M

Hi DM,
Thanks for sharing.

I am not very keen in Toshogu shrine as I have been there once.
So this time, I am planning to walk around central Nikko after taking a ride in the double decker Max Yamabiko.

Yes, the red shinkyo bridge is a must-see in Nikko. I saw from the internet that now is Koyo (autumn falling leaves) and the scenary is so beautiful. But when I go there in Dec, maybe I see only bare trees.

If I don't go to Nikko, I will spend the whole day shopping in Tokyo which will be "disastrous" for my luggage and bank account!

nikko is indeed quite a distance away from tokyo. and if you are not into toshogu..and if the weather is not good to see the kegon falls..then it'd be quite a wasted trip. maybe you should just stay in tokyo...there are too many things to do in tokyo...even if not shopping!!! are you into cooking/baking? if you are...you cannot miss kappabashi street! i can spend my entire day there - D_M
