Chicken Soup for the Soul
During my recent trip to the library in West Mall, Bukit Batok, I found a series of books called Chicken Soup for the Soul. I borrowed 2 of these books; namely Older and Wiser, and Dads and Daughters.
The former made me shed tears many times because of the touching short stories. The latter gave me an insight on the love from a father to his daughter.
In each book, there are 101 short stories and it is not dragging.
Have a look at these books during your next trip to the library. They give you some inspirations in life.

CNY (new notes vs old notes)
Have you been joining the long queue at the various banks to get the crisp new notes? Yes, I admit the feeling of holding these new notes in hands is wonderful. In fact, these new notes smell nice too. Afterall, it is MONEY and who does not love it?
Since a few years ago, I have stopped adopting such behaviour. The queues are long and boring. There are limitations imposed by the various banks on the amount of new notes one can exchange. After the CNY, the new notes become the old notes.
What is the difference between new notes and old notes? Afterall, a $2 note is still a $2 note. The new $2 note does not have a face value higher than the old $2 note and vice versa.
I know during CNY, everything must be new. But I do not get new clothes every CNY. I do not get new things every CNY. I do use new red packets for CNY and that is all.
I do make an effort to ensure that whatever notes that go into the red packets for elders and kids, the notes are not the old and dirty type. I do this out of respect for the receivers.
Time to rethink of exchanging old notes for new notes during CNY!

MORE than 71,000 people caught the Singapore Airshow over the weekend, with many visitors happy that delays caused by security checks and transport woes - the two biggest complaints that had plagued the event in previous years - were less of a problem.
This time, getting in and out of the Changi Exhibition Centre, near the airport, was a breeze. Previously, visitors had complained that there were not enough shuttle buses and registration counters, which in turn led to long queues.
However, some felt that the flying displays this year were a letdown.
Unlike the previous airshow in 2008, when visitors were wowed by the heart-stopping aerobatic displays of the Black Knights - the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) aerial display team - and the Royal Australian Air Force's Roulettes, the flying segment this year featured mainly displays by single aircraft.
The Royal Australian Air Force's F-111 strike aircraft, which was supposed to perform an air manoeuvre, dropped out after a technical fault last Friday.
It was scheduled to perform a 'dump and burn', in which the plane releases some of its fuel while in flight, and then ignites the fuel with its afterburners to form a trail of fire.

Singapore Airshow 2010 Part 2
This day has finally arrived.
D and I arranged to meet at Terminal 3 for lunch before we proceed to Changi Exhibition Center. I took the train from the west while she took it near the city area. What a coincidence that we were on the same train all the way to the east.
We enjoyed our meals at Kopitiam Terminal 3. The xiao wan mian was delicious and generous in portion. With my discount card, it was value for money. The kids enjoyed their western food too.
There were bold and obvious signs where to take the shuttle bus at the arrival hall of both Terminal 2 and 3. We walked to the coach stand located at Terminal 2. There were not many people and very soon, we boarded the bus.
The bus left the stand in a short while. The journey to the Center was quite smooth. Once we reached the Exhibition Center, we saw lots of people. The queues at security check were moving and we felt relieved.
The weather was very hot but windy. I think the windy conditions helped to make us feel lesser stressed from the hot burning sun.
There were quite a lot of aircraft being displayed in the open area. But the main point of attraction was the flying display at 3pm.
We waited patiently for this display to start at 3pm. I was quite disappointed with it because only a few aircraft were involved in the flying display. The RSAF sent a F16 jet and an apache helicopter. Each did some stunts in the cerulean blue sky. Initially it looked impressive but sooner, it was nothing much thrilling.
I recalled in 2008, the few Black Knights performed aerobatic stunts in the sky together and that was a challenging part as coordination became extremely important.
Now it is just a solo show and you can imagine how lonely the aircraft is in the sky.
We saw the flying display by an American and an Italian jet too.
The whole flying display lasted about 45min. By 4.30pm, we were already at Terminal 2, walking to the train station to catch our train home.
Overall, I am impressed by the smooth queues at various points but not the flying display. The hot weather was a torture but the winds have provided some relief.
Next Airshow will be 14-19 Feb 2012!

1st Week of February
Unknowningly, February has started and we have less than 2 weeks before Chinese New Year.
As usual, our office gives us CNY goodies. This year, instead of 4 cans of CNY cookies, we are each given a voucher to exchange what we would like to have in one of the outlets. My nearest outletwould be at Bugis Junction. I will have to make a trip there this weekend.
During the past few years, we always complained why gave us this type of cookies when we preferred the other. Now we are given a choice to choose what we prefer but we complain of having to make a trip to the confectionary shop.
There is no doubt that complaining has became part of our life.
